About Us

SASH is a youth homelessness charity that supports 16 - 25 year olds facing homelessness, across York and North Yorkshire.

Homelessness can happen to anyone....it has no stereotypes.

There are many reasons why a young person may face homelessness, from family breakdown or leaving care to fleeing abuse.

SASH offers emergency and longer term accommodation within the homes of its hosts (hosts are ordinary people with a spare room and an open heart and mind) and supports them on their journey to independent living.

SASH services are as much about supporting young people to resolve the problems which have led them to becoming homeless as they are about putting a roof over their head.

SASH services are made up of the following:

Nightstop: Emergency accommodation for when a young person has nowhere else to go.

Supported Lodgings: Longer-term accommodation where a young person can stay with a host for up to two years.

SASH Enhancement: An enhancement programme that helps young people in SASH to build emotional resilience and wellbeing, providing education, employment and training opportunities and equipping them to develop key skills to live independently in the future.
