Cooper King Distillery is a self-built, crowd-funded distillery in Sutton-on-the-Forest, York, producing sustainable spirits distilled with craftsmanship, honesty and adventure. It's the first in England to produce carbon-negative gin and the first in Europe to join environmental initiative 1% for the Planet.
Producing gin, vodka and whisky, we run on 100% green energy and are champions of sustainability. We work closely with Yorkshire farmers, distil using locally grown grain and botanicals, opted for lightweight recycled glass bottles, developed plastic free postage and plant one square metre of native English woodland for every bottle of gin sold.
Founded in 2016 by Dr Abbie Neilson, a former scientist and Chris Jaume, a chartered architect, the venture was inspired by travels to Australia and Chris’s adventurous great-great-grandfather, Charles Cooper King, whose family has rich historical ties to Yorkshire dating back to 1030.
Join us for a guided tour of England’s only self-built whisky and gin distillery, situated in picturesque countryside 10 miles north of York.

We’ll introduce you to state-of-the-art vacuum gin distillation and the wonderful Tasmanian copper pot whisky still – the only one of its kind in the Northern Hemisphere.
