Visit York Collaborates with Partners to Inspire Canadian Visitors
Visit York has worked with Visit North Yorkshire, Visit Leeds and VisitBritain to showcase York’s unique visitor experiences to Canadian audiences through a media familiarising trip.
The writer’s inspiration came from the romance of Wuthering Heights and Pride & Prejudice, focusing on an itinerary designed to immerse travellers in this dramatic and picturesque atmosphere, encouraging them to choose experiences, attractions, accommodations, pubs and cafes that stands out.
Working with partners, Visit York curated a suggested itinerary to guide travellers through the city that combined the city’s heritage, screen tourism connections and world-class attractions to help inspire longer stays and make it easy for visitors to explore the city and beyond.
Coverage from the journalist’s visit culminated in print and online articles including Journal de Montreal and Journal de Quebec, two leading French-language outlets with combined readership of 3.7 million.
York’s connection to film and television provides a strong introduction for visitors to discover locations featured in productions including Victoria, Gentleman Jack and Bodies, while exploring landmarks such as York Minster, Castle Howard and Fairfax House.
The itinerary also highlighted the city’s wider visitor offer, including experiences such as York Museum Gardens and Bettys, in addition to a stay at The Milner York. The trip was nestled within a wider destination visit which also included Halifax, Haworth, Malton and Whitby.
