Submitting content for Visit York's visitor channels

Want to share your latest news, event or experience with Visit York visitors? We’d love to hear what you’ve got planned.

To help you understand what works best across our visitor-facing marketing channels, we’ve put together some simple guidance on the types of content we can share and what gives your content the strongest visitor focus.

Our visitor website and social channels are designed to inspire people to enjoy York and the surrounding area.

Your content should...
✅ Put visitors and residents first Focus on what people can see, do, enjoy or discover in and around York.
✅ Inspire people to experience York Give people a reason to visit, explore, stay longer or try something new.
✅ Have a clear York connection Make it relevant to someone's time in and around York.
✅ Be useful or inspiring Help people plan, discover or decide what to do.
Not for our visitor channels
❌ Outbound content Content encouraging people to travel away from or spend their time outside York.
❌ Business-to-business content Content aimed mainly at businesses or industry professionals.
❌ Internal or corporate news Company updates with no clear visitor or resident benefit.
❌ Content with no visitor angle Focus on what people can see, do, book or enjoy in York.

The simple test

Will this inspire or help someone enjoy their time in and around York?

Yes? It could be right for our visitor channels.

Business or industry news may be better suited to our Visit York Members and B2B channels.

To share or not to share? That is the question

Visit York social media channels help inspire people to visit York, plan their trip and enjoy more of the city while they are here.

We also use our Visit York Membership channels to share useful updates, opportunities and information for local businesses and members.

To help Visit York Members understand what content is most likely to be reshared by our visitor-facing channels, we’ve created a simple flowchart guide.

Social-Media-Sharing-Flowchart

Use the guide to check whether your post has a clear visitor focus, showcases a strong York experience, uses high-quality visuals and has been shared with enough notice.

Some posts may be more suitable for our Visit York Membership channels, particularly if they are aimed at businesses rather than visitors. This could include sector news, member opportunities, training, business support or other relevant updates for York’s visitor economy.

Please note that meeting the criteria does not guarantee a reshare. All content is subject to scheduling, available space, campaign priorities and suitability for our audiences.

To give your post the best chance, make sure it is clear, timely, engaging and easy for visitors or members to understand at a glance.
