New Visit York Website Features Help Members Showcase Their Businesses and Strengthen Visibility in AI Search
Visit York has launched new a FAQ feature for members, developed through the business' ongoing work to strengthen the city’s visibility across traditional search, AI Overviews and large language models such as ChatGPT.
FAQs Now Available
FAQs are now live via the Visit York business login, giving all members the opportunity to add dedicated FAQ sections to key content types including business profiles, events, offers and experiences. These FAQ sections have been built with AI and search visibility in mind, applying FAQ Schema to the information entered by members.
By presenting key questions and answers in a clear, structured format, the update improves the way member content can be read, understood and surfaced by search engines, AI Overviews and large language models.
The development has been delivered as part of Visit York’s wider work to adapt the website to changing digital search behaviour. With more visitors using tools such as Google’s AI Overviews, Google Gemini and ChatGPT-style platforms to research destinations, plan visits and ask detailed travel questions, it is increasingly important that York’s visitor economy content is accurate, structured and easy for AI systems to interpret.
Any FAQs created through the new tab will have FAQ Schema applied automatically, giving the content a greater chance of being viewed. The completed FAQs will also appear on the frontend of the listing above the “You May Also Like” section, helping visitors find useful information quickly and clearly.
This is especially valuable for members because AI platforms and search engines increasingly rely on clear, specific and well-structured information when responding to user queries. Practical FAQs around opening times, accessibility, booking requirements, facilities, location, pricing, pet policies or visitor experience can all help search engines and AI tools better understand what a business offers.
Clear, helpful FAQs can also support members in converting online interest into potential customers. This improved clarity can help visitors make faster, more confident decisions, supporting enquiries and bookings.
More Schema Fields Coming Soon
Further website enhancements are also coming soon, with new alternate Business Profile entry types being introduced for Food & Drink and Accommodation businesses. These will include enhanced, sector-specific Schema fields designed to provide richer information to Google, search engines and AI platforms.
For accommodation businesses, the new fields will include price range, pets allowed, check-in time and check-out time. For food & drink businesses, the fields will include price range, takeaway availability, delivery availability and whether reservations are accepted. The Visit York digital team will allocate fields to these entry types where relevant.
These updates are designed to support stronger performance in niche and hyper-local searches, such as queries around restaurants nearby, places to stay in York, pet-friendly accommodation or venues accepting reservations. The more complete and accurate a member listing is, the better opportunity it has to be understood and surfaced by search engines and AI-led platforms.
By investing in Schema-led website improvements, Visit York is helping members respond to the changing ways visitors discover, compare and choose destinations. The new FAQ feature supports stronger online visibility for individual businesses, enhances the quality of information available to visitors and helps keep York’s visitor economy visible in an increasingly AI-driven search landscape.
