New Experiences Section Launches to Drive Bookings for York Businesses

We have launched a brand-new Experiences section on visityork.org, giving Visit York Members a new way to showcase bookable visitor experiences and reach audiences actively planning their visit to the city.

Included as part of Visit York Membership, the new section enables businesses to upload experiences directly through their business login. Members can add details of their bookable offer and include direct booking links or embedded booking platforms such as FareHarbour, Beyonk, TXGB and Viator, helping to support bookings and conversions from Visit York’s highly engaged visitor audience.

The launch comes at a time when experiences are playing an increasingly important role in travel decisions. VisitBritain research shows that 59% of domestic visitors choose destinations based on the experiential activity they are interested in, while only 20% of inbound travellers have a good idea of where to do experiences in England. This creates a clear opportunity for York businesses to raise their profile and make it easier for visitors to discover and book memorable things to do in the city.

Travellers are also placing greater value on authentic, local experiences. According to GetYourGuide, 98% of travellers say experiences are very or extremely important when choosing a destination, while Booking.com research found that 77% of travellers seek authentic experiences representative of local culture

The new Experiences section provides a dedicated space on visityork.org for bookable experiences, supporting a wide range of visitor-facing businesses including tour providers, attractions, food and drink experiences, workshops and hands-on activities. With visityork.org attracting over 1.4 million annual visitors, the new section offers Members a valuable opportunity to increase visibility, support direct bookings and promote their experiences to people actively researching and planning trips to York.

The Experiences section will be widely promoted across Visit York’s digital channels, including the website, social media, member communications, eNewsletters and relevant future campaigns. It will also be integrated across key areas of visityork.org, including the main navigation, Things to Do pages and seasonal campaign hubs, helping visitors discover and book more of what York has to offer.

Members can upload their experiences by logging in at visityork.org/login, selecting the Experiences tab and submitting their content for approval. For any questions, please contact digitalteam@makeityork.com.
