Welcome to St Michael le Belfrey! We are a Christian Church in the centre of York with a vision to Serve God’s Transformation of the North. That means we have a passion to serve our neighbourhood, our city, our region and beyond, showing them and you the love of Jesus Christ.
During the week, a team of volunteers offer the public a peaceful, free-of-charge visitor experience in our church building in the heart of York's Minster quarter. The church includes one of the most notable collections of sixteenth-century stained glass in any English parish church, including four panels depicting the life of Gilbert, St Thomas à Becket's father. There’s also evidence of Guy Fawkes' baptism, and a vibrant church life today. Our team extends a warm welcome to visitors of all faiths and none. Click here to find out more about visiting us mid-week.
We gather throughout the week for a variety of events and groups, and particularly for our services on Sundays and Wednesdays. These have a range of styles, with joyful worship, prayer and practical Bible teaching. The heart of church community and life is found in our mid-week ‘Belfrey Groups’, small gatherings of people which usually take place in homes.
We’re making plans to renovate and renew St Michael le Belfrey church building so that it can become even more fit for purpose for worship and mission for the future. This significant renovation and re-ordering work is our IMPACT project. Click here to find out more.
There’s so much to be involved with at St Michael le Belfrey, and we’d love to invite you to get to know us better. Feel free to try one of our services, come and visit during the week, support our social action programme, consider using us a mid-sized venue with capacity for 550+ people, or even fill in this form if you’d like to become a member of our church.
