Viking Weekend, Sat 11th & Sunday 12th July
Come and experience life in the turbulent Viking Age as the seaborne Scandinavians clash with the ancient kingdom of Northumbria. Viking reenactment group ‘Vanaheim’ will be putting on displays of crafts, cooking and combat. Experience the sights and smells of the Viking village and the clash of swords and shields in their battle displays. Normal garden entry applies.
Programme:
From 10.00am – 4pm
- Meet the Vikings in their village with crafting displays
- Norse Hutt – hunters base (watch out of the hunters parading around the garden)
- Sheild Making and Clay activity at the Yeti Den for children
- Cider Casks - Mead, Cider and Beer
Main arena displays
11.30am Weapons display – learn about the weaponry, armour & tactics
12.15pm Kiddie Vike – visiting kids train in the shield wall against the Vikings
1.30pm Sharp weapons display
2.30pm Main battle performance (the Vikings have raided the monastery at Ripon and are trying to make off with their haul, but will the local Saxons intercept them?)
3.30pm Finish in main arena
