Following a string of sold-out concerts, University Jazz Band returns to celebrate the music and artistry of legendary jazz bassist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus. Mingus’ innovative style blends elements of swing, bebop, gospel, classical and the avant-garde. In addition to his virtuosity and dedication to musical excellence, Mingus’ complex inner life and social activism are often reflected in his work.
