The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring is an award-winning indoor attraction in the heart of York, featuring mind-bending optical illusions, interactive exhibits, puzzles, and creative photo opportunities for visitors of all ages.

What are your opening hours?

We are open 7 days a week, with opening hours varying slightly throughout the year.

Our standard opening hours are:

Sunday – Friday: 11:00am – 5:00pm

Saturday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

During school holidays and special events, we may extend our opening hours. Please check our website or booking page for the latest times before your visit.

Our gift shop is open to everyone, you can enter without buying a ticket for the main attraction

Where is The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring?

You'll find us in York city centre at Merchantgate, just a short walk from many of York's most popular attractions, shops, and restaurants.

How long does a visit take?

Most visitors spend around 45–60 minutes exploring the attraction, depending on how long they spend enjoying the optical illusions, puzzles, and interactive exhibits.

Do I need to book in advance, or can I pay on the door?

We recommend booking online in advance to guarantee your preferred entry time, especially during weekends and school holidays.

Walk-in visitors are always welcome, subject to availability, and can purchase tickets on arrival if spaces are available.

Can I take photos?

Absolutely! Photography is encouraged throughout the attraction, and many of our optical illusions have been created to produce fun and memorable photos. Don't forget your camera or phone.

Is The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring suitable for children?

Yes! The attraction is suitable for visitors of all ages. We recommend it for children aged 5 and over, although younger children also enjoy many of the colourful illusions and interactive exhibits.

Is the attraction wheelchair accessible?

The attraction is on one level and includes an accessible toilet. Wheelchair access is available via the gift shop entrance. Due to the nature of the building and some exhibits, a small number of areas may have limited accessibility.

Are there flashing lights?

Some areas of the attraction include camera flashes as part of the experience. If you would like more information before your visit, or have any concerns, please speak to a member of our team, who will be happy to help.

Can I bring my dog?

Registered assistance dogs are welcome at all times. We also hold selected Dog Day sessions during the year, when well-behaved dogs are invited to visit with their owners.

Is there parking?

We don't have our own car park. The nearest is Coppergate Centre Car Park (YO1 9NX), just a few minutes' walk from the attraction.

Do you offer group discounts?

Yes. We offer discounted admission for groups of 15 or more. Please contact us directly to discuss your visit.

What if I need to move or cancel my booking?

You can cancel your booking for a full refund up to 5 days before your scheduled visit.

If you need to change your booking, you can move it to another available date or time up to 48 hours before your visit. Bookings can only be moved once and, once amended, are no longer eligible for a refund.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or booking changes within 48 hours of your scheduled visit.
