About
The York Mystery Plays Festival brings this extraordinary medieval tradition back to the city streets this summer, as the York Mystery Plays return on 28th June and 5th July with spectacular open-air performances across York. Evening performances follow in the atmospheric setting of Shambles Market on 30th June and 1st July.
From 22nd June, the plays are wrapped in a vibrant festival programme celebrating York’s storytelling heritage: The Flood, an immersive art exhibition with original soundscape; Women’s Voices, an archival exhibition with recorded testimonies created in partnership with The Bar Convent and NCEM; a city-wide Grotesque Trail; podcasts; poetry; public talks; guided walks and live music evenings. A city becomes a stage — and everyone is invited.
