About

Join us as we delve into Medieval York.

See the most spectacular Arma Christi medieval scroll in the world- depicting the traditional Easter prayer– on special display at the Bar Convent.

Bring the whole family to discover how this remarkable scroll would have been used to mark Easter 500 years ago and take inspiration from its striking imagery to create your own masterpiece in the crafts corner. With a fascinating exhibition on Catholic history in York, family-friendly interactives and a café and chapel, the Bar Convent is the perfect place to celebrate and discover more about Easter. Included in the exhibition.

The Arma Christi will be on display 28 March- 11 April and 22 June- 5 July.

Join us for a special event with Dr Isobel Staton on 2 April, 2pm

Gather by candlelight for an atmospheric immersive reading of the Arma Christi which brings the ‘Passion of Christ’ to life. Experience a Middle English recital of this traditional Easter prayer as it would have been spoken 500 years ago. Set within the intimate surroundings of the historic library, a space rarely open to the public, and with an introduction to the Arma Christi prayer scroll in the exhibition- this is a rare opportunity not to be missed.
