York Cat Trail
About Us
Free fun in York city centre is for everyone! The York Cat Trail is self-guided and is a beautiful way to discover historic York.
Cats have played a part in York's history and luck has been linked with them since records began. After all, cats have 9 lives! The original cat statues were placed on buildings to frighten away rats which then could carry plague and bring death... The significance of the original, now mostly rotted and removed, statues cannot be overstated.
There are currently about 35 cat statues. Our trail focuses on the most central ones. It takes around 2 hours and is as pedestrian friendly as we can achieve. The trail is fabulous for families and all age groupings. It is also wheelchair friendly.
