About Us
No.1 York is GuestHouse Hotel's latest home in this noble city just a 10-minute stroll from York Minster.
The building is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of stately proportions and head-turningly good looks. It has huge, dreamy sash windows, higher-than-high ceilings, a sweeping central staircase, and ivy around the door. Its grand-but-friendly face is full of charm, and inside you’ll find pantries stocked full of treats for the taking, great restaurant food throughout the day, delicious drinks from the bar, a spa centred on bespoke therapies, and a straight-from-the-heart welcome.
Our 39 lovable bedrooms, including three standout suites, are dotted around the building’s three floors. Each one has its quirks courtesy of the building’s heritage detailing and our interior designer’s wonder-inspiring style. Dog-friendly and family-friendly so you can bring the whole gang!
Our spa sits down in the arches of our cellar. It’s a cocooning world of bespoke well-being experiences. There are five treatment rooms, including one for couples, and therapists armed with knot-untying know-how and organic vegan lotions from Pinks Boutique carry out a calming range of massages, therapies and rituals tailored to guests’ particular concerns.
There's decadent Afternoon Tea served in The Marmalade Lounge and a vast, delicious selection of cocktails in The Rhubarb Bar.
And for something a little more substantial there’s Pearly Cow. A new addition to 1 Clifton, all just a short walk from the theatre. Pearly Cow is devoted to respecting what thrives nearby – the herds, breeds, crops, and catches that sum up the area’s flavour. And in our first home of York, it is strictly the wildest produce of land and sea that we cook over flame or serve on ice. On the menu, there’s raw and light and smoky and deep.
GuestHouse is a family-owned hotel brand bringing happy hotels to historic buildings on Britain’s most desirable streets. Owners and visionaries behind the brand are the three Guest brothers (Tristan, James and Tom) on a mission to develop a new generation of upscale hotels that will offer guests a wonder-filled, indulgent treat while retaining the warmth and character of the traditional guest house experience.
