Joseph Rowntree Theatre
About Us
The Joseph Rowntree Theatre is a registered charity originally built by the Rowntree Village Trust in 1935. Located in a Grade II listed theatre, it is the only remaining Rowntree building still used for its original purpose - a place for recreation and entertainment.
The stunning art deco building is a vibrant hub of live entertainment, hosting productions from pantomime and musicals staged by talented local groups to touring performances by national and international musicians all year round. Over 360 comfortably upholstered seats spread across the stalls and balcony ensures that every audience member gets an unrestricted view of the stage.
A volunteer board of 13 trustees manages the theatre, supported by over 170 volunteers working across all areas, from stage crew to box office, fundraising and marketing. Building on the legacy of its founders, the theatre offers the opportunity for everyone to get involved. Be inspired and experience the joy of theatre, whether in the audience, on the stage, behind the scenes or by volunteering.
