About
Join us on Tuesday 24th of November 2026 & Friday 26th February 2027 for 'A night with the Stars at Stump Cross Caverns'
24 November
A big moon and spectacular Saturn will be our chief targets on this exciting night of stargazing. Expect to see lunar crater and mountains and even learn how to use you phone to take a keepsake picture. Saturn is also ideally placed, with its rings looking even more brilliant than last year. This massive world in the icy depths of the solar system is a mere 818 million miles away on this night! We'll have powerful telescopes at the ready to reveal these cosmic wonders, plus we'll take a tour of the late Autumn constellations.
26 February 2027
With the moon absent we'll see lots of stars from our dark location and we'll offer a tour of the late winter constellations. Closer to home two planets will also be putting on a great show. Jupiter is high in the sky and we'll be able to see its biggest moons and markings on solar system's biggest planet. Nearby is distinctly red Mars, offering an amazing double bill of attractions.
Event information
We provide the telescopes, but bring binoculars if you have them. Wrap up warm and bring a torch, or use the one on your mobile phone. Even if the weather doesn't co-operate we promise you indoor action with a beginner's introduction to the heavens in our comfortable cinema room. Events are perfect for novices including adults and children over six years old. Our experienced and friendly astronomer for each night will be Richard Darn. Each ticket includes a UV cave tour.
The events start at 7:15pm prompt in our cinema room and lasts for around 2 hours. Please arrive at 5:30pm for your UV cave tour before the event, or you are welcome to do this after the stargazing if you wish.
The Time Cafe will be open for hot and cold drinks and light refreshments for the duration of your visit.
