Since the Vikings first settled in York in 855, their culture and pastimes remain woven into the city’s rich heritage. There’s no doubt, Vikings have a sordid history, and while some people may regard them as rebels or outlaws, we believe there’s much more to the Viking story.

Vikings were explorers. Their hunger for discovery was insatiable, reaching as far as the rivers of Russia, across the Atlantic, even to North America five centuries before Christopher Columbus. There’s an undeniable sense of empowerment—charting new courses and challenging what’s possible.

At The Hilt, we believe fearlessness is fun, and nothing is more fun (or honestly satisfying) than hurling an axe through the air and sinking it into a wooden target less than 4 meters away. We want to thrill and excite, but most of all, we want to bring people together to celebrate discovery, belonging and adventure!
