Sledmere House and Gardens
About Us
There is something about the charm of Sledmere that has captivated visitors for over 200 years. Whether you're looking for a relaxing day exploring our beautiful gardens, enjoying lunch in the Coach House Café, browsing our Farm Shop, or admiring fine examples of art and architecture on a guided House Tour, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Surrounding Sledmere House are our Gardens, including the stunning 18th-century Walled Garden, along with beautiful Parkland and a Deer Park. Recently named a finalist in the Historic Houses Garden of the Year Award, our gardens are gaining increasing prominence for their dynamic and innovative development programme. While carefully preserving their formal historic character, the gardens continue to evolve with imaginative planting and contemporary design. Walk through a series of beautifully crafted garden rooms, each with its own unique atmosphere, colour palette and seasonal interest, creating an ever-changing experience throughout the year.

Throughout the year we host a programme of seasonal events, ensuring there is always something new to experience at Sledmere. From our popular Lambing event and exclusive Deer Safari weekends to Halloween celebrations, Sledmere's Magical Santa Experience, workshops, exhibitions and family activities, every season offers something for visitors of all ages.
Sledmere House is a stunning Grade I listed country house, which is still lived in and has been cherished by the Sykes family for over 250 years. Sledmere is both a Georgian House and an Edwardian House. Designed by Samuel Wyatt and Sir Christopher Sykes (2nd Baronet) and nurtured by successive generations, this remarkable home continues to captivate visitors year after year.
Sir Christopher Sykes (2nd Baronet) rebuilt and redecorated the house in the 1790s, but in 1911 it was almost completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, most of the contents were rescued and can still be admired today. It is worth a visit to experience the splendour of Joseph Rose's exquisite plasterwork alongside fine examples of furniture by Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton.
The Coach House Café serves the very best of Yorkshire's fresh, locally sourced food and drink. The menu features a delicious selection of hot and cold meals, alongside much-loved favourites including the Coach House Breakfast and homemade Afternoon Teas. There is always something tempting to enjoy. We also offer function rooms overlooking the historic Stable Block, available to hire for parties, celebrations and meetings with flexible catering options.
