Käthe Wohlfahrt is a family owned business founded in 1964 by Wilhelm and Käthe Wohlfahrt. Everything began with a Christmas music box from the Erzgebirge region which was a gift to friends. The business idea grew out of a love for a traditional Christmas, together with an enthusiasm for preserving customs and the associated craftsmanship. Please click HERE to see our website. In August 2016 the first all year round Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop in Great Britain opened its doors in the picturesque city of York. In the heart of the city and only 200 yards from the impressive York Minster, "Mulberry Hall", one of York's oldest and most iconic houses, became the home to a unique Christmas world over two floors. It is worth a visit to the listed building, dating back to 1434, with its splendid Tudor front and stunning panelled room on the upper floor.

In the historical rooms, visitors can immerse themselves in a magical Christmas world, with a wide selection of beautifully handmade and hand-painted Christmas decorations and gift ideas made of glass, wood and much more. Here visitors experience a world that transports you back in time to rediscover the well-known and the traditional (for example the Erzgebirge decorations) but also includes modern styles. As Käthe Wohlfahrt's only shop in Great Britain this is the only place where you will find their most popular designs, which are developed in the company's own artist workshop in Rothenburg o.d. T/Germany. The experience would not be complete without a visit to our 1st floor Cuckoo Clock room. Here you will see a selection of exquisite, genuine cuckoo clocks made in the Black Forest region of Germany.
