The Braithwaite Gallery
About Us
An independent retail art gallery located just yards from York Minster, in the city's historic Minster Quarter, The Braithwaite gallery is a family run business, which boasts friendly staff who are knowledgeable and informative; many of whom are artists themselves, with works exhibited in the Gallery.
With three floors full of original paintings, limited editions and fine art prints to choose from, your visit to The Braithwaite Gallery is bound to introduce you to your new favourite artist. On permanent display is the work of resident artist Mark Braithwaite. Mark can often be seen painting 'on location' in our beautiful city. Mark's extensive portfolio has been nationally published, however the Gallery has many unique works.
Mark's most recent work is a fun series of ghost pictures - some of which are magically enchanted (or illuminate under black light!). With York being, reportedly, the most haunted city in Europe, the gallery now plays host to a pack of playfully problematic poltergeists! Perhaps you'll see our new recruits lurking in the Gallery's windows after dark or (if you're lucky) they'll pop out to say hello during your visit.
Further to the resident artist's fun and games, the gallery also has a huge portfolio of prints and paintings of York and the surrounding area in different styles, media and sizes. From seaside to cityscape, traditional to contemporary, this gallery has it all. Not only is The Braithwaite Gallery the region's official dealer for Jack Vettriano prints, they also specialise in other big name artists, such as: Sam Toft, Bill Tolley, and Gary Walton. If you like quirky art that will make you smile, the Gallery is a must to visit on your trip to York.
The Gallery also offers a full framing service; mount cutting, bespoke and ready made frames, so you can walk away with beautiful art, ready to hang straight on your wall!
The gallery regularly fundraises for charity, organising exciting experiences from artist events to raffles, with this year's dedicated charity being PAPYRUS, Prevention of Young Suicide. Over the past decade the gallery, with the help of their talented artists and the generosity of gallery customers, has raised almost £20,000 for good causes. If you're keen to be involved, visit the gallery's social media pages for announcements on upcoming events.
