About
Temporarily Closed
York Cold War Bunker is currently closed due to a maintenance issue and will remain closed until at least 7 February.
They hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible and will provide updates once reopening dates are confirmed.
Visitors who have already booked to attend York Residents’ Weekend will be contacted directly by the attraction to arrange an alternative tour date after reopening.
We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause and hope visitors will be able to plan a visit for a future date.
The most modern and spine-chilling of English Heritage’s properties, the York Cold War Bunker uncovers the secret history of Britain’s Cold War. Enter the blast-proof doors and investigate the more unusual side of York’s heritage.
In active service from the 1960s–1990s the bunker was designed as a nerve-centre to monitor fallout in the event of a nuclear attack.
Pre-booking is essential. Please visit the York Cold War Bunker website and use code G5TJQB to book. You must arrive 15minutes before your tour. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated once the tour has started.
