York Mystery Plays
The York Mystery Plays are back! This theatrical spectacle, performed in the streets of York, is a tradition dating back to Medieval times and only take place every 4 years. The Bar Convent are thrilled to be a part of this year’s programme:
- 19 June- 29 August: Special exhibition- Women in the Mystery Plays– a fascinating exploration of the roles and stories of women within the history of the Mystery Plays. You can see this with entry to our exhibition*.
- 22 June- 5 July: See the original Arma Christi Medieval scroll on display in the exhibition*.
- 4 July: We’re also excited to announce that the Bar Convent will be hosting Calvary in the gardens. This is a free event.

Closed Sundays. Last admission to the exhibition is 4pm.
The Bar Convent Opening Hours
Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm with last admissions at 4pm. Closed on Bank Holidays and some dates over Easter and Christmas - please see our website for details.
