Step back in time as we celebrate York clockmaker and inventor, Henry Hindley (1701 – 1771).

The Hindley turret clock at the Bar Convent is the best example in York and is one of the most important in the UK.

Join us to take a closer look at the Hindley clocks in our collections, explore Hindley’s contribution to the City and see his Blue Plaque displayed for the first time on loan from York Civic Trust.

For those visiting during York Georgian Festival, please be aware mass will be taking place in our Georgian Chapel on Friday, 12-12:30, all faiths and none are welcome to join!

Included in the exhibition, closed Sundays. Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm (last admission 4pm).

The Bar Convent Opening Hours

Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm with last admissions at 4pm. Closed on Bank Holidays and some dates over Easter and Christmas - please see our website for details.
