About
Create your own 30ml gin-inspired perfume in a 2–2.5 hour workshop with Nicola Thomis, scent designer and fragrance journalist. Learn how gin botanicals and sustainable scents combine to craft beautiful fragrances – and enjoy two York Gin & tonics while you blend.
Sustainable Gin Scents – Perfumery Workshop
Using methods developed by renowned artisan perfumer, Sarah McCartney of indie perfume house 4160Tuesdays, Nicola will take you through a hands-on workshop exploring the shared art of gin making and perfumery.
Just like gin distilling, perfume making is about balancing botanicals – extracting aromas, blending notes, and creating something unforgettable. In this 2–2.5 hour session, you’ll learn about sustainable perfume making and use gin botanicals including juniper, coriander, orris, rose, citrus fruits, rosemary and lavender to create your very own 30ml fragrance.
4160 Tuesdays
Nicola has been taught by renowned indie perfumer, Sarah McCartney, and the workshop will use materials and methods directly from the 4160Tuesdays creative space. You'll walk through simple steps to make your own scent, learning about sustainable perfumery materials along the way - some inspired by gin botanicals.
Learn and create in our beautiful speakeasy location whilst enjoying delicious York Gin and tonics along the way, and take home your own, special fragrance.
What’s included:
£70 per person – workshop limited to 10–15 guests (minimum 6).
- 10 sustainable scents demonstrated, smelt and used in your creation.
- A 30ml refillable bottle of your own bespoke perfume to take home (including bottle, pump and atomiser).
- A personalised formula sheet and booklet to guide you through the process – and to make reordering easy (send your formula to 4160Tuesdays to have more made).
- 2 York Gin & tonics (or non-alcoholic alternatives).
You'll learn how modern perfumery is turning to green chemistry, biodegradable molecules and upcycled botanicals (from cacao husks to oakwood from whisky barrels) – while you experiment with scent-building just as you might with gin botanicals.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a refillable 30ml perfume of your own making and the skills to blend fragrances sustainably.
