The Black Swan at Oldstead
About Us
Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors between the impressive Byland Abbey ruins and the Kilburn White Horse, The Black Swan is a Michelin-starred, 4 AA Rosette restaurant with rooms by chef Tommy Banks.
Stylishly grounded in tradition and culture yet cut through with modern, gastronomic creativity, our dining experience is an intimate reflection of our character, our place and our lives; developing new ideas from a constantly refreshed palate of produce which we grow, rear, and forage ourselves.

Chef, Tommy Banks was Britain's youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2013 and won Great British Menu in 2016 and 2017. The Michelin-starred Black Swan was awarded The Best Restaurant in the UK 2018 by The Food and Travel Magazine and the 'Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World' by TripAdvisor, in 2017.
The menu is inspired by the ingredients that we grow and forage in and around Oldstead. We have a 3 acre kitchen garden where we grow a large proportion of that appears on the menu. There is also the Banks Family's farm less than a mile away where the larger scale crops are grown. Working around the seasons results in some incredible flavours developed by fermenting, pickling or prolonged ageing.
