About
That's right peasants, it's the York Dungeon's favourite day of the year, and they're even staying open late to make sure they can torture and torment as many of you as possible!
On Halloween, Thursday the 31st of October, the York Dungeon will be welcoming (torturing) visitors from 10am in the morning, with the last starting at 8pm!
The York Dungeon brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages and scenes.
It is a highly sensory experience with dark spaces, jump scares, loud noises, flashing/strobe lights, pungent smells, water sprays, air blasts and jump scares. Our guests also have the opportunity through random selection to become part of the show.
We love it. We know you will too. Here's why:
- Walkthrough 10 live actor shows, telling the story of 2,000 years of York's dark history
- Enjoy specially designed sets, special effects and gripping storytelling from our professional cast
- Meet famous characters from York's dark past including Vikings, Isabella Billington and Guy Fawkes!
- Survive the witch in the York Castle Dungeon: the scariest show in Dungeon history!
- Laugh and scream as you experience surprises walking through the depths of the Dungeon
Audience participation is a key element of our tours. Guests are selected at random in some shows to become part of the experience.

And as it's Halloween, they have a brand new seasonal show running........
Will you survive the Black Widow?
This Halloween, discover the chilling truth behind Britain's most notorious female serial Killer, Mary.
Did you know she would lace her teapot with arsenic to kill her victims. But who can refuse a good cup of tea?
Are you brave enough to step into the shadows of Victorian England and come face to face with the Black Widow herself?
Beware…for her charm is deadly.
The Black Widow is based on true events.
Alongside The Black Widow, which is included with ticket entry, guests will be immersed in the York Dungeon’s (in)famous tales including Guy Fawkes, the Plague, Vengeance of the Vikings, the York witch Isabella Billington and the grand finale Dick Turpin carriage ride.
The Black Widow runs from Saturday 12th October to Sunday 3rd November. Opening and Closing times vary during this period. Please check the York Dungeon website for exact opening and closing times for specific dates during this period*.
*Extended opening on Halloween, Tuesday 31st October, from 10am to 8pm!
For evening visits to the York Dungeon (without the kids) during the Halloween season, check out our special Dungeon Lates on Saturdays and selected Fridays!
We recommend The York Dungeon for children aged 8 and above, however, entry is at the discretion of the parent/guardian.*
It does get very dark inside and there are lots of loud noises. Please be aware if you need to leave the attraction during a tour, unfortunately, your ticket/s will be non-refundable.
*Children under 5 years old will not be permitted to enter - for families with younger children, why not join a York Dungeon Little Peasants Walking Tour?
