Security and Safety
Your safety is at the heart of everything we do at York Christmas Market. As you wander through the festive chalets, enjoy a mulled wine or browse for the perfect gift, rest assured that we’re working closely with North Yorkshire Police and partner agencies to keep everyone safe throughout the season.
We have visible measures in place – including protective barriers, CCTV and friendly security staff – as well as behind-the-scenes systems to make sure your visit is both secure and enjoyable.
Working Together to Keep York Safe
York Christmas Market is proud to support Counter Terrorism Policing’s winter campaign, encouraging everyone to play a part in keeping our city safe. You’ll see our security teams, stewards and staff around the market – they’re there to help.
If something doesn’t feel right, please tell a member of staff straight away. You won’t be wasting anyone’s time. In an emergency, always call 999. Together, we can help keep York safe this Christmas.
Protective Security Barriers
Permanent protective security barriers are in place across the city. These measures help protect people attending and working at the Christmas Market, as well as residents and visitors enjoying York throughout the festive season and beyond.
ACT – Action Counters Terrorism
We’re working with Counter Terrorism Policing UK as part of the ACT campaign. Your safety is our top priority, and your awareness helps too.
If you see something that doesn’t feel right, please speak to a member of our security team or report online at gov.uk/ACT.
Project Servator
We’re also partnering with North Yorkshire Police’s specially trained Project Servator officers, who use a range of security tactics to help keep everyone safe while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
CCTV
CCTV cameras operate across York, providing 24-hour monitoring to support public safety. These systems are continually reviewed and updated to ensure a secure environment for everyone enjoying the city.
See It, Hear It, Report It
You can also play your part in keeping York safe by reporting anything suspicious. Text YORK and your message to 60060 (please note there is a £1 charge for this service).
