About

Celebrated author, composer and performer/producer Kerry Andrew brings their unique blend of words, music and folklore to the place that inspired much of it, being an alum of the University of York. They will be reading and discussing their latest novel, We Are Together Because, a dystopian work set in the South of France which explores listening and hearing, family dynamics and identity, as well as how music and words interweave in all their work. They will also be performing songs from their latest You Are Wolf album, hare//hunter//moth//ghost, which explores transformation in folk songs and lore.

The second part of this double bill features award-winning musician Elsa Hewitt who, following her formative years spent as a prolific singer-songwriter and band leader, has emerged as a producer of experimental and individualistic electronic, ambient, dance, modern classical and pop music. In her intuitively composed songs, beats and soundscapes, she expresses the subtle and ineffable currents of life, with a distinctive flavour of musicality, texture and atmosphere. Winner of the Lynsey de Paul Prize in 2016, Elsa Hewitt’s latest album, Chaos Emeralds, was released earlier this year and marks the start of a new phase of music and releasing for the York-based artist, who is also an alumna of the University of York.

The performance also includes musical collaborations between Kerry Andrew and Elsa Hewitt in which they will be joined by former member of The Unthanks and performer with Kathryn Tickell and The Darkening, Stef Conner.
