About
Our popular Glassmaster challenge returns for 2024!
It's 1410 and one of York's most prominent merchant families, the Blackburns, have decided to commission a new stained glass window for All Saints North Street. Can you come up with the winning design?
In medieval times, the wealthy merchant families who worshipped at All Saints North Street were keen to guarantee their place in heaven through charitable works, including commissioning some of the stunning stained glass that survives in the church to the present day. In this fun interactive event, you can work alone or with your friends to find clues about one of these families, the Blackburns, and discover the themes they would have favoured in their windows. Then it's time to get designing – can you use what you know about the family to design a winning window? You’re up against the clock so the sooner you find the clues, the more time you have to spend on creating a design to appeal to the Blackburns. Don't forget that there's a generous commission at stake - we have a York Gift Card up for grabs for the winning team!
This event is free thanks to funding from the Heritage Open Days New Wave scheme, but booking is required as numbers are limited.
