Uncover York’s icy stories and glacial origins with York’s Hidden History and Thin Ice Press!

STRICTLY LIMITED TO 15 SPACES - PLEASE BOOK YOUR TICKETS VIA EVENTBRITE: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e...

On Sunday February 2nd, during the York Ice Trail 2025 weekend, we’re teaming up with our friends at Thin Ice Press to offer An Ice Old Walk round York. As we stroll through the city’s hidden history, we’ll encounter ice-skating Vikings, pioneering Earth scientists, and polar confectioners.

Starting by the Keystones pub outside Monk Bar, we’ll raise a glass to the North Sea ice trade, before gliding serenely down Aldwark to look for the Blue Coat Ice Man in St Anthony’s Gardens. We’ll then pop into the York Centre for Print to try our hand at some frosty souvenir-printing on the Thin Ice Press.

From Peasholme Green, we’ll then slide round the Ice Age lakes of Hungate and Fossgate, watching out for Jorvik speed-skaters – and Ice Trail sculptures – as we go, before making a careful descent onto King’s Staith to finish by the ice floes of the River Ouse.

An Ice Old Walk is suitable for polar explorers aged 6 and over, and is strictly limited to 15 people. We will begin the walk on Monkgate, outside Monk Bar, at 2pm, and get to Thin Ice Press by 2.30pm, where souvenir printing is included in the ticket price. We’ll then continue the walk at 3pm, finishing on King’s Staith by 4pm.
