Thank you for getting involved in the Accessibility Filter initiative – your quick and easy way to ensure that your business listing on visityork.org fully reflects the accessibility features you offer.

This project is designed to help York’s visitors and residents quickly locate venues that meet their access needs, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone exploring our historic city. Updating your information is simple: just log in and tick the appropriate checkboxes for the accessibility features your business provides (only check items that apply to your business). If your venue doesn’t have any specific accessibility features, please don’t select any.

Once we have gathered enough information from Visit York members, we will launch the filter on the front end of the website and promote it widely. The estimated launch date is late March 2025.

What is the Accessibility Filter?

Accessibility Filters

This is a demo of the website design, and the official list of filters will be amended.

The Accessibility Filter is an online tool on visityork.org that allows website users to search for businesses based on the accessibility features they require. When users apply the filter, they can easily find venues that match their specific access needs. In addition, any accessibility services you offer will appear directly on your business listing page, ensuring that visitors can see exactly which features your venue provides.

Why Share Your Accessibility Information?

By submitting accurate accessibility information, you’re not only enhancing your business listing – you’re also helping to create a more inclusive York. When website users see up-to-date details about the services you offer, they can make better-informed decisions about where to stay or visit. This improved visibility can attract a broader audience, build trust with potential customers, and position your venue as a welcoming choice for everyone. Your participation plays a crucial role in building a comprehensive resource that benefits the entire community.

          Launch Phases

          • Phase 1: Basic Accessibility Checklist
In this first phase, you can log in to your business account on visityork.org and select from a straightforward checklist of key accessibility features – such as wheelchair access, accessible toilets, braille menus, and more. This simple process ensures that visitors can quickly see the essential services your venue provides.
          • Phase 2: Detailed Data Collection – Coming Soon
In the near future, we will introduce a more comprehensive data collection process in partnership with VisitBritain. This phase builds on recent UK-wide initiatives that have identified the top accessibility features visitors look for when planning their visit. As part of this phase, there will be a straightforward survey tailored to your business sector to capture the key accessibility features data from your business. With this enhanced approach, your listing will showcase an even broader range of facilities, making it easier for visitors to find a venue that meets all their needs.

Thank you for taking the time to update your accessibility details and for helping make York a more accessible and welcoming destination. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact digitalteam@makeityork.com.
