Visit York Members Enjoy Exclusive Preview As Winter Returns to JORVIK Viking Centre

Visit York members were invited to an exclusive preview of ‘A Winter Adventure’ at JORVIK Viking Centre on 10 November, joining staff, trustees and Friends of JORVIK for a first look at the attraction’s wintery transformation. A big thank you to the JORVIK team for welcoming us to this special behind-the-scenes evening, helping us to celebrate and showcase York’s outstanding attractions to our wide network of members.

‘A Winter Adventure’ reimagines the Viking city under a blanket of snow and ice, inspired by the Norse goddess Skadi. A brand-new feature for this year is the Time Portal, allowing visitors to peer into the blacksmith’s house excavated on the site in the 1970s. Using cutting-edge “time vortex” technology, the new installation provides a window into York’s 10th-century streets, before visitors embark on their own time-travelling sleigh journey through Viking Coppergate.

Running throughout the winter season until the end of February 2026, JORVIK’s Winter Wonderland offers visitors a fresh perspective on York’s Viking past.
