Free entry for York Residents' Festival

Show your proof of address at the till for free entry to Beningbrough all weekend. No booking required.

Head to the first floor Reddihough Galleries and discover Whispers of the Wilderness: Exploring Wilderness Gardens. An immersive exhibition of contemporary sculpture, historic collections, soundscapes, and a hands-on Drawing Studio.

Elsewhere in the hall, uncover the stories of the people who have shaped the estate over the centuries through key collection pieces. Not your typical historic house, there's space to appreciate the details of the architecture and craftsmanship of the carving all around you.

Outside the garden can be appreciated for its structure and shape at this time of year, with large trees puntuating the landscape and trained fruit along the walls. Look out for the first buds teasing their way out, snowdrops might be starting to shoot along the Ha-ha walk. In the Mediterranean Garden, designed by Andy Sturgeon, the varied textures and sizes of the evergreens and grasses make it year-round garden to meander through, with frosty mornings adding to the beauty.

The wilderness play area is on hand to help warm up smaller legs, as is the restaurant for hot chocolates or lunch to refuel and make the most of your free day out.

Open 10am - 3.30pm. Head to the website for more details of what to expect and plan your visit to Beningbrough.

No booking required. Just bring along a valid York Card, student card or identity card that proves your York residency.
