Location: St Michael Le Belfrey church, High Petergate, York, YO1 7HH

Visit York members are invited to a unique viewing of St Michael le Belfrey’s church building before it goes into Construction. For a short time only, it will look as it would have done when it was built in the 16th century.

This Grade 1 listed building is about to undergo a major repair project called Impact. The roof will be replaced, the stonework and medieval stained glass repaired and the interior will be beautifully restored, made accessible and flexible with better facilities.

As part of their Sustainability strategy, they have carefully removed the wood within the church, including the pews and the existing gallery so it can be reused in furniture and other building projects.

With the help of the Centre for the Study of Christianity of Culture at the University of York, the team will give a short talk on some of the key historical features and figures of St Michael le Belfrey and an overview of Impact.

In April, they hope that Construction will start and then the building will change again to make it work really well for Worshippers, Users and Visitors alike for generations to come.

We look forward to seeing you and sharing with you this very special church.

Enter the venue by the side entrance opposite York Minster on High Petergate. Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear.
