About Us

All Saints North Street is York's finest medieval church. This stunning, historic, and peaceful building is tucked away just off busy Micklegate, opposite North Street gardens, but well worth a short detour.

Dating back to at least 1089, the church retains many historic features. It hosts one of the finest collections of early 15th century stained glass in the world, including the unique 'Pricke of Conscience' depicting the last fifteen days of the world. The brightly painted angel ceiling highlights the role of beauty and colour in the medieval church. Elsewhere, a Roman column tells us of the reuse of existing materials in constructing the church. More recent additions include the carved Chancel screens (1920s) and the modern Anchorhold (1910). The original Anchorhold, built c.1394, was the site of "The York Visions" in which The Virgin Mary foretold the death of Henry V, and coronation of the baby Henry VI.
