Whether you want to choose the perfect pumpkin to carve or want an autumnal day out with family and friends, visiting pumpkin patches are one of the best ways to immerse yourself into the new season. Halloween in York has plenty to offer that can keep you busy until the end of the month.

There are a wonderful range of PYO pumpkin patches in York and its surrounding areas. Let’s highlight some of the places you can visit so you can begin your pumpkin picking adventure!

Pumpkin Festival at Piglets Adventure Farm

On selected weekends in October and October half term

There is an abundance of Halloween fun at Piglets Adventure Farm - from a spooky ghost trail to a fun-filled dragon egg hunt in a maize maze, complete with Merlin and his smoke breathing dragon. The Pumpkin Festival is perfect for families to pick their own pumpkin and take part in a pumpkin carving session. A free pumpkin for every paying child, Piglets Adventure Farm is a fantastic location for families with kids.

Pumpkin Patch at Castle Howard Garden Centre

Running from 1st - 31st October, open 10am – 5pm

The magnificent Castle Howard is always worth visiting, and the pumpkin patch at the Garden Centre makes for the most picturesque day out.

For the fourth year running, the pumpkin patch promises pumpkins of all sizes and colours so you are guaranteed to find the perfect one for carving and decorating. Plus, don’t forget to check out The Great Pumpkin Adventure with the Skelves, a brand new play showing on the last weekend of October.

PYO Pumpkins at The Balloon Tree Farm Shop & Café

Running until 31st October

The Balloon Tree’s pumpkin field is filled with homegrown pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colours. Enjoy a warm drink in the café and discover local homegrown produce in the farm shop, while the kids can keep busy in the play area. No need to book, just bring your wellies and get started on a great family day out.

Pumpkin Patch and Pumpkin Carving at Web Adventure Park

19th October – 3rd November

‘Weboween’ at Web Adventure Park is the perfect half-term treat for families. Fairground rides, animal encounter sessions, and indoor play are just some of what’s on offer this autumn. The pumpkin patch is the perfect photo opportunity, alongside a dedicated space to carve the pumpkins too.

Harvest at Beningbrough (National Trust)

16th October – 3rd November

If you want to make the most of the new season, discover the bountiful harvest at National Trust’s Beningbrough. Complete with tastings of fruit and vegetables in the stunning gardens, talks with the gardeners, in-house tastings of jams, curds, and chutneys, and restaurant tastings. Beningbrough are also partnering with gin makers Sing, Gin, Spirit of Yorkshire and Ellers Farm Distillery for ‘meet the maker tastings’. Children can also get involved with gathering the produce for the restaurant on selected days!


Pumpkin Patch at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park

With a special designated carving area, the pumpkin patch at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is a must-visit. The park offers great photo opportunities with Halloween face cut-outs and a special Halloween menu at the cafe when you want a break. Other seasonal activities like a Halloween trail means you won't run out of spooky activities!


Halloween On The Farm at Beetle Bank Open Farm

28th October - 1st November

There's plenty of spooky fun to have at the farm, including pumpkin carving after picking one of the farm's homegrown pumpkins. Plus, enjoy a broomstick hunt, apple bobbing, and a fancy dress contest!
